The Intrigue of Shock Value – @garyvee and @trulia on being a Real Estate Agent in 2010

Rudy from Trulia hosted Gary Vaynerchuck on a podcast / webinar today with a bunch of the Trulia Pro’s and Trulia VIP’s. I gained a lot from it. Read along and I think that you’ll find that some of the new ideas here are way too cool to “not” implement. Gary is the man behind the book Crushit! and he’s  the co-owner with his brother AJ in VaynerMedia. Gary rose to worldwide fame with WineLibrary.com. What a story there… Rudy is the socially adept workaholic Mr. Trulia! If you know me, then you know how much I love Trulia. Trulia loves me back in a big way. I took great notes today and many are direct quotes from the podcast – here goes… …The internet is just 15 years old. It hasn’t even had sex yet. Everyone is overthinking it. You don’t have to know it all, or apply analytics to it all, you just need to apply your common sense to any platform that you choose to work with. Don’t be scared of it. Today, Americans don’t make enough … [Read more...]

The “Art” of Adair Park

There’s a saying in the real estate business that states: “pricing is an art, a science and a skill.” This video and the following comments about Intown Atlanta’s Adair Park are not just the rainy day ramblings of a dude who did not shave. I’ve just watched one particular Adair Park property drop in sellable value from $150,000 to $35,000 in 2 years, and this video tells you the story… So, recently the City of Atlanta put a cool new sculpture in Adair Park, but that is about the most beautiful investment anyone is making in Adair Park, lately. Somewhere around 2006, the "disinvestment" and "mortgage fraud" trends hit the 30310 zip code...HARD. 30310 had and has the distinguishing weakness of real estate speculation gone haywire. Houses that would have sold for $150000 in 2007, now will not sell for more than $50000... You really should check out Historic Adair Park's website - the Adair real estate dynasty of the early 20th century built an … [Read more...]

The Case Against Suburban Sprawl

kunstler.jpg

James Kunstler, a remarkable writer, blogs at the somewhat controversial but always on point "Clusterfuck Nation." If you have a tolerance for language peppered with words like "clusterfuck" then add James to your regular reading - he is prolific, he is verbose and he is always passionate. If not, then wait on Katie Couric or Anderson Cooper to say the exact same thing, but to process it more palatably for your tender brain. Mr. Kunstler has written about the "mutilation of American cities," post-World War II suburban blight and sprawl, and the general economic, political and sociological "problems" of these United States, since the early 1970's during his days as a writer for Rolling Stone and since 1975 when he dropped out and began writing books. Today's article, "Original Sin" details how the banking industry became propped up by suburban sprawl and how the unsustainable growth of "consumer culture" has broken down into a heap of chipboard and vinyl. If you are … [Read more...]

How Big of a Funk Are We In?

final-rootdown-stacked1275x300.jpg

That’s the logo of my real estate agency practice at Keller Williams Realty First Atlanta. I think it’s funky. Keller Williams Realty First Atlanta is the #1 real estate brokerage office in the entire state of Georgia for dollars sold this year! That’s beyond funky. My real estate brokerage is a 10 year old whiz kid centrally located in Sandy Springs and Keller Williams Realty First Atlanta is lead by Shaun Rawls, Jeri Moran, and Steve Kout. It’s a tremendous “place to work” and those three are all very funky. And, they let me co-brand and build my own unique Intown Atlanta and Decatur practice all within the safe confines of a smartly run brokerage. And, they let me call it The Rootdown Group. That’s a funky one. I can thank Greg Ruis, The Pricemaster, for also being the Chief Logo Officer at The Rootdown Group. He spent about 6 months coming up with our funky logo. I wish that he would blog, but he doesn’t blog…yet. So, instead of … [Read more...]

R.I.P. Michael Jackson

In the Summer of 1979, in Greenville, S.C. this hot chick named Lauren and I listened to “Off The Wall” in her bedroom, and I heard “Don’t Stop ‘til you Get Enough” for the first time. It’s been in my top fifty ever since. Michael has been Wacko Jacko since 1985 or so, but may he rest in peace… This is my favorite song from the Michael Jackson body of work - “You Are My Lovely One.” … [Read more...]
